In reaction to Master Plan discussions in the late 1980s, a group of interested volunteers joined together to promote and carry-out activities in the village of Nassau that would foster a spirit of community and enhance the physical appearance of the village. In 1990 the Village Board approved the creation of a Village Beautification Committee. Since then the goals have remained the same – improve the appearance of Nassau by encouraging homeowners to maintain and enhance their properties, plant public spaces with flowers, shrubs and other natural elements, promote community involvement through events and spread the word of these activities to residents through various types of communication.
As the 1994 anniversary year celebrating the 175th incorporation of Nassau Village wound down, many of the activities, events and interested volunteers involved with the celebrations invigorated the Beautification Committee with a model for the future.
