Eastern Rensselaer County Solid Waste Management Authority
The Village of Nassau joined the Eastern Rensselaer County Solid Waste Management Authority, a public benefits corporation established in 1989, in an effort to provide its residents with an environmentally sound, comprehensive, and cost-effective solid waste disposal service.
As part of our membership, ERCSWMA also provides a variety of services, including:
- Long term waste disposal and transpoartation contracts.
- Household hazardous waste collection days.
- Waste reduction and recycling programs, including establishing markets for all recyclables collected.
- An outlet for reusable goods and other materials that are not collected curbside.
- Waste reduction and recycling education programs.
Household Solid Material Waste
All residential (1-4 units) are provided one (1) 64 gallon, black-lidded tote with wheels for their household trash. Please ensure the tote lid closes completely. If your trash overflows the 64 gallon tote, it will not be picked up and you will be responsible for the dispose of the trash. Green trash bags are available to purchase for $2 each at the Village Hall between 8:00 a.m. and 12:00 noon weekdays.

Single Stream Recycling
Single Stream Recycling (SSR) lets you put all your recyclables into one, 64 gallon, green-lidded tote with wheels, for ease of transportation. No sorting, separating or additional cost. SSR reduces the amount of trash in our landfills; while also reducing the carbon footprint – one truck for pickup.
The SSR pick up day is Tuesdays, except Holidays as noted. The SSR tote should be 2 feet away from your HSMW tote, with the tote opening facing the street.
Acceptable Items: White Envelopes, Computer, Fax, and Copy Paper, Kraft Paper (brown grocery bags), Magazines and Catalogs, Chipboard/Box Board, White and Colored Ledger Paper, Newspaper, Notebook Paper, Paper, Egg Cartons, Construction Paper, Soft Covered Workbooks, Telephone and Paperback Books, Junk Mail (including envelopes and coupons), Juice Boxes, Milk Cartons, Aluminum Cans, Glass Bottles (green, clear, brown), Tin and Bi-Metallic Containers (including Aerosol Cans), Aseptic Milk/Juice Cartons, Aluminum Foil (pie plates), Plastic Containers (♻ 1-7) and Frozen Food Cartons.
Refuse Fee Schedule
Refuse Fee is due on or before June 30.
$175 per unit, 10% penalty after 30 days; and 1% each month thereafter until October 31st. On November 1 all unpaid refuse will be levied to the subsequent property tax bill.
